Early on the morning of June 8th:
Give.
Offer something you have so others may benefit. Give for those without the means of survival. Give for those without a voice. Give especially when that voice rings loud with the courage to ask for help. Give so a son can enjoy a different life, a long one, filled with possibility, a career, love that is either won or lost, fatherhood. I dream those for him but am willing to support his personal pursuit. Give to crack open the egg of hope for a fellow CFer, a sibling, this family immediate and extended, the random stranger that offered their love one to save another.
A few hours from now, after a journey of years and one endless night, I will give my son to the best team in the nation as he undergoes a double lung transplant. Late in the evening, they will give him back to me better than ever. And I will wait for him to explain the true meaning of breathing.
Thus goes the cycle of organ donation. Give when the time is right. Accept the chance at a new life.
